Education school has been a whole new experience for me. Every day in the classroom is a new adventure! Today in Mrs. Weather's class we got to "play" with STEM activities. It. Was. Great. My group was named Grand Champions of the day for completing and dominating the competition. (Super proud of us. I knew we could do it!)
Our teachers are always finding ways engage us in the classroom. I cannot remember a day in Education school when the class was all lecture. We ALWAYS have hands-on activities to work with and things to manipulate. Today just happened to be STEM activities in Mrs. Weather's class! As I mentioned in a previous post, STEM activities were very intimidating to me before reading an article that was assigned by Mrs. Weathers. After class today, STEM is something that I am super excited about! It opened up a whole new world of ideas for future lessons.

After working with the lessons myself and having to work together as a group in the classroom I see the need for STEM lessons in the elementary classroom more than ever. In our group we had to brainstorm together and work as a team in order to be successful. Some ideas did not work and other ideas just needed more work. These things helped us come together as classmates and achieve a common goal. As we were working, I understood the need for these types of lessons in my future classroom. The students will be able to work with different students in the classroom that maybe they do not normally talk to. They will be able to hear ideas of the other students as well as share their own ideas. I understand now that this is a VERY important part of building a classroom atmosphere. Students will collaborate with others and learn from them all while working towards a goal. How much better can a lesson get?! Student learning is number one on every teacher's goal list, why not make it fun?
Huge thanks to Mrs. Weathers for planning lessons that keep us engaged and showing us things that will boost our own classrooms one day! I look forward to her class every single day and cannot wait to see what awesome advice she always has to give. I cannot wait to see where STEM takes us!
